SCOTUS

The only thing I don't like about today's Supreme court ruling in Heller is the fact that there are four justices who cannot see a clearly enumerated right in the second amendment.

Oh, wait. There's also that "...and bear..." thing. It's obvious the Founders intended for us to be allowed actually to carry our arms with us! What a revolutionary idea! Thus we should be able not only to protect our loved ones and selves within the confines of our domiciles, but even when out and about in the cold, cruel world. Who'd'a thunk it?

Well, obviously, not our imperial Supreme Court. I mean, this was a much better ruling than any of us libertarian conservatives had any reason to hope for, but it certainly isn't perfect.

Of course, the only perfect world is the one to come...

Oops!

Okay, to be perfectly honest, I haven't figured out how to get e-mails from this blog. But I did figure out how to solicit, review, edit, and respond to comments. I can be such a genius!

Also, you may call me Sonny. Or any other thing you want, since your comments have to go through me before they're posted publicly.

Very honestly, I had no concrete idea of what I wanted this blog to be when I started it a few days ago. It started as a joke based on my daughter's blog (see blog list). I really am a jeweler and have been for 38 years, as of September 23, 2008.

I have a lot of issues with many aspects of the jewelry industry. There are charlatans, including those morons who think they're being clever when they "switch" customers' stones. I am happy to tell you that such people are exceedingly rare. As far as I know, I have never worked with or known anyone who has done this. But the more I consider what I can do here, the more I think I can inform the public of what really goes on in the industry. And so I shall.

I love my work, and I love the jewelry business despite the fact that much of it is distinctly unlovable. But what industry can claim otherwise?

If you have questions about anything concerning fine jewelry (which would include gold and platinum, diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, and many of the "semi-precious" stones), please feel free to write. If I can figure out how to do so, I'll answer publicly here. Otherwise, I'll answer privately only.

This is my first post. As I currently have nothing nice to say, I shall say nothing at all.
